Creator Tools
Microphones, cameras, lighting, tripods and streaming gear for video and podcast creators, with last-checked prices.
Buying creator gear: what improves a video or podcast, and what does not
For video and podcasts, sound and light change the result far more than resolution does. A clear voice and a well-lit face in 1080p look more professional than a dark, echoing 4K recording. The checks below help you spend first where it shows, and avoid the accessories that rarely make a difference.
Microphones
A USB microphone plugs straight into a computer and is the simplest start. An XLR microphone needs an audio interface or mixer, but it is easier to upgrade later. In an untreated room, a dynamic microphone close to your mouth picks up less echo and background noise than a condenser; condensers sound detailed but need a quiet room and phantom power when they use XLR. A cardioid pattern records what is in front and rejects the sides.
- For phone videos, a clip-on lavalier or a small wireless kit improves sound more than a new phone.
- Check the connector: USB-C, Lightning or 3.5 mm.
Lighting
Look for a colour rendering index (CRI or TLCI) of 95 or higher, which keeps skin tones natural. Bi-colour lights that cover about 3200 K to 5600 K let you match daylight or room light. A soft, large light source, such as a softbox or a light bounced off a wall, is more flattering than a small bright one; ring lights are convenient but leave a visible ring in the eyes.
Cameras and webcams
Sensor size and light matter more than the resolution number. If you want to use a camera as a webcam, check that it offers a clean HDMI output or a manufacturer webcam app, and whether it can run on mains power without overheating. For 4K recording on memory cards, the card's video speed class matters: V30 or higher is the usual recommendation.
Tripods, software and used gear
Check a tripod's maximum load against your camera with its lens, and the height with the centre column down. Buy software licences from the developer or an authorised reseller; very cheap lifetime keys on marketplaces are often not valid, and we drop such listings. Used microphones and lights are often good value, but ask about the condition of cables, mounts and batteries.
How this page works
Products from our own partner feeds appear first, in our usual order. Live eBay listings are shown in a separate, labelled section in eBay's own order; commission never changes either order. Prices come from the store at the time shown, and the store page has the final word.
